Empowering Students Through Open Source
Inspired by my Outreachy internship focus on event organizing, documentation, and regional communities, this Fedora event aimed to introduce students to the world of open source and create an inclusive space where everyone could learn, contribute, and grow. By bringing Fedora to Murang'a University, we bridged the gap between students and the global open source community.
I introduced students to the fundamentals of open source philosophy, the four freedoms, licensing models, and collaborative development methodologies that drive innovation in the tech world.
Students learned about Fedora's rich history, its commitment to freedom and innovation, and explored the different Fedora editions designed for various use cases and preferences.
I guided students through different pathways to contribute to Fedora, from documentation and translation to design, development, and community advocacy – showing that everyone has valuable skills to offer.
